Catholic Health dedicates new Lockport Memorial Hospital

On Wednesday, Catholic Health leaders were joined by invited guests and local dignitaries to unveil the new Lockport Memorial Hospital following a blessing and dedication ceremony led by The Most Rev. Michael W. Fisher, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo.

The Niagara County Department of Health nursing division, in partnership with the Niagara County Office for the Aging, is offering a free diabetes self-management workshop. The six-week course is scheduled from 1-3:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning Oct. 16, at the new Lockport Memorial Hospital, 6001 Shimer Drive.

Niagara University awarded $500,000 HECap Grant

Niagara University's Holzschuh College of Business Administration has been awarded a $500,000 Higher Education Capital Matching Grant for the construction of a facility to house the Centers for Food Industry Innovation and Supply Chain Excellence. The facility, which will be located in Bisgrove Hall, will include an innovation hub, a classroom of the future, and a business technology lab.

Man found shot, dead in truck in Niagara Falls

At approximately 10:50 p.m. Monday, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to the 1700 block of Pine Avenue to check the welfare of a man sitting in a pickup truck. Upon arrival, officers located a 47-year-old male, sitting in the driver seat, unresponsive. Niagara Falls Fire Department and AMR responded to render aid, at which time it was determined that the victim had been shot.
Niagara County Social Services: HEAP application process begins Nov. 1

Niagara County Social Services Commissioner Meghan Lutz announced the 2023-24 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) application window will open Wednesday, Nov. 1, with a streamlined application process. Applications have already been sent to qualified individuals who received HEAP last year and meet the early outreach criteria.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski and Orleans County Clerk Nadine P. Hanlon announced the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has begun sending out driver's license suspension notices to the 95,000 motorists who renewed their license between March 1, 2020, and Aug. 31, 2021, by self-certifying their vision, but have failed to submit the results.

Hessney, who died on May 11 at age 64 in Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
