The Niagara Wine Trail is celebrating the holiday season with a weekend "Holiday Happenings" event, Saturday, Dec. 3, and Sunday, Dec. 4. Guests will receive three tastes of wine at 12 participating wineries, as well as a limited-edition keepsake jigsaw puzzle, which features the Niagara Wine Trail's new illustrated map.

Trustees in the Village of Lewiston voted Monday to approve a motion increasing the municipal water rate 8 cents - from $3.95 to $4.03 per 100 cubic feet of usage - effective Jan. 1, 2023. Mayor Anne Welch stressed this action is the result of an equal rate increase from the Niagara County Water District.

Now, Niagara County can lay claim to another nationally known professional athlete: mixed martial arts star Billy Quarantillo. The Lewiston-Porter graduate will face Alexander Hernandez on Dec. 10 in "Ultimate UFC 282," a mixed-martial arts card at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout will broadcast on ESPN pay-per-view.

When Healing Earth CBD opened in the summer of 2021, public response "was very, very positive," co-owner Brandon Rush said. "You know, obviously there's a huge issue with education. A lot of people come in, and they don't know the difference between marijuana and hemp. They don't know what the difference between CBD and what THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is, or what it does to the body. So, we spend a lot of time educating customers. But I think, overall, it's been a very positive customer experience. I mean, we've done very well; we're obviously still in business."

Niagara University honored Bishop Darius G. Pridgen, the OSC Charitable Foundation, and the Rev. Joseph G. Hubbert, C.M., at its 2022 President's Dinner, Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Niagara Falls Convention Center. Proceeds from the President's Dinner benefit Niagara University's scholarship programs. More than $275,000 was raised toward student scholarship assistance during the event.
