Relay For Life: Crafting for a Cause

Sat, Mar 5th 2016 07:00 am

Visitors to the Golden Age Center at the Nike Base on Whitehaven Road can support the Grand Island Relay For Life through the center's ongoing Crafting for a Cause.

Pictured, Lynn Dingey, tri-chair of the Grand Island Relay For Life, shows senior volunteers and Jennifer R. Menter, recreation attendant at the center, how to make the purple bows that will adorn the Island on Paint the Town Purple Day April 30.

The 2016 Grand Island Relay For Life, which raised over $129,000 last year, will take place this year June 10. (Because the Relay will not run overnight, kids under 18 will not have to have a chaperone to stay until midnight. They will not have to fill out the youth agreement form.)

Returning to Relay this year is Paint Night, which was a popular new feature at last year's event.

Tuesday, March 8, the annual Grand Island Relay For Life Kickoff will open at 7 p.m. in the Veronica Connor Middle School cafeteria. The slogan of this year's Relay is "Give Cancer the Boot," a country music theme. Participants to the kickoff are encouraged to wear their favorite country outfit.
