Town of Lewiston Citizen of the Year
The Lewiston volunteers of Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center have been chosen by Town of Lewiston Supervisor Steven Reiter as Citizen of the Year.
This dedicated group of volunteers provides a positive impact and a much-needed service to both patients and staff of Mount St. Mary's Hospital.
More than 60 residents of the Town of Lewiston serve as volunteers at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, providing assistance in a wide array of necessary services at the hospital. From answering the telephones and directing visitors at the information desk in the main lobby, to assisting patients as they are being discharged, to delivering the mail to offices, the volunteers are integral to the daily activities in the hospital.
As the hospital's medical staff, nursing team and trained technicians take care of the patients, volunteers also make deliveries to various departments, serve as hosts in the surgery department, transport patients to-and-from the hospital, and even serve coffee to patients and visitors.
Their actions help contribute to the positive community relations and service arm of the hospital. Making the patient and families of patients comfortable is a priority for those who spend their time volunteering.
Volunteers are always needed at the hospital, and the process to become one is very easy. The hospital staff also tries to match volunteer interests with hospital needs, which helps create a meaningful service experience. The hospital is fortunate to have these local residents from Lewiston who are able to dedicate their time to helping make Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center a place where patients can feel comfortable during their stay.
President and CEO Judith Maness said, "Our volunteers are one of the most visible expressions of our mission. These very special individuals generously give their time to us at the Mount St. Mary's Hospital and to Our Lady of Peace. This time is perhaps their most valuable possession. We could not buy nor replace what they give us for free. They are dedicated and loyal; and they make our lives and our work so much better for their presence here. Thank you for recognizing the Mount St. Mary's Lewiston volunteers. We are very proud of them and very grateful for their service."
