The City of Niagara Falls and the Niagara Falls Public Library have launched a “clean kit” initiative to help with the city’s cleanup efforts. Residents with a library card can pick up “clean kits” at the Earl W. Brydges Building (main library) and LaSalle Branch Library.

The clean kits include a safety vest, gloves, trash bags, and a litter grabber tool. Residents are encouraged to help keep the city clean by collecting litter and trash. After 21 days, residents are to return each item except for the trash bag, which should be disposed of in their regular trash collection.

This initiative complements the work of the city’s street team, which has been working diligently, cleaning blight and trash throughout neighborhoods due to delinquent homeowners and abandoned properties.

“As residents of the City of Niagara Falls, we each have a personal responsibility to keep our city clean,” Mayor Robert Restaino said. “Complementing the clean team through this initiative will accelerate our cleanup efforts.”

Families, parents and caregivers visiting the Niagara Falls Public Library can also attend free children's programming. The following activities are available in June:

•Arts and crafts activities for children will be offered from 6-7 p.m. Mondays at the LaSalle Public Library, and 3-4 p.m. Wednesdays at the Niagara Falls Public Library Main Branch.

•The Niagara Falls Public Library main branch will host two summer movie screenings, on Saturday, June 6, and Friday, June 19.

“After you check out a library book or attend one of our engaging childhood activities, you can pick up your own clean kit and work collectively as a community to keep our neighborhoods clean, ” said Sarah Potwin, Niagara Falls Library director. “If you do not have a library card, please stop by the main library to pick one up today!”
