On Feb. 4, West Street Elementary School held a fundraiser for the American Red Cross disaster relief fund to help victims of the tornadoes in Florida and the widespread fires in California. Children were asked to donate a dollar to enter a coloring contest and, if at least $200 was raised, then Principal Mr. Mong would have to kiss a goat (this year’s leadership theme is country/farm).
The lobby was turned into a mini petting zoo on the morning of the event, as the King family (daughter Adrianna is a Kiwanis Kid leader) provided goats for students to pet and feed.
West Street School raised $325 – and the King family graciously donated an additional $200 – so, Mr. Mong did, in fact, kiss a goat.
Representatives from the Red Cross were on hand to receive the donation, and thanked the school for the contribution. In addition, prizes were set to be given out to winners of the coloring contest.
