Veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States: The VFW Memorial Day parade needs you!

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Downriver Post No. 7487, has made arrangements for a large "float" to be entered into the Memorial Day parade. VFW organizers are asking veterans to ride on the float.

The Memorial Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the corner of Fourth and Center streets in Lewiston. The parade route will travel the length of Center Street, and turn into Academy Park.

Parade sponsor Emery Simon is making his lowboy trailer available for the event. The VFW float will be handicapped-accessible with safe seating for all. The well-decorated VFW float will have seating for at least 30 veterans, but space is limited, so reservations are suggested.

The VFW float can be accessed at the corner of Fourth and Center. Participants should arrive by 10:30 a.m. for seating.

All veterans of the armed forces, of any age and gender, should contact parade chairman Norm Machelor at 716-866-6880 and reserve a place. Riders will travel to the ceremony at Academy Park, where a seat will be reserved at the remembrance ceremony. Food and beverages will be available in a nearby tent at the event's conclusion.
