The Chris Maloney Legacy Foundation will host its first charity golf tournament to celebrate the life of Christopher Thomas Maloney, and to raise awareness of the growing issues surrounding addiction. The event is slated for Monday, June 19, at the Lockport Town & Country Club, 717 East Ave.

The tournament will be a "best ball" format. Tournament day check-in begins at 9 a.m. with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. Entrance fees are $175 per player ($150 early bird rate before May 1) or $750 for a foursome team ($600 early bird rate), and include lunch on the turn, greens fees and cart fees. A dinner will follow at 5 p.m., which will include a cash bar, the naming of silent auction and wine raffle winners, awards presentations and guest speakers. Prizes will be given for several competitive awards, such as men's foursome champions, women's foursome champions, mixed foursome champions, hole in one, longest drive, longest putt and on-course pay-to-play "poker game."

Maloney was born April 1, 1993. His true passion was for the sport of golf, and the encompassed traditions, individual commitment, honesty and ethics required, perseverance and social aspects. Maloney harnessed these facets to help battle the disease of addiction, which ultimately took his life on June 19, 2016.

The Chris Maloney Legacy Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Sustainability will allow the organization to direct funds and support to a variety of programs that look to prevent addiction in unique and helpful ways. Finding avenues to strengthen character in youth, providing for stronger and longer-lasting support systems within local communities, and creating effective and truthful education are current focus points.

The foundation's mission is to raise awareness of the growing issues surrounding addiction. Assisting in the prevention of addiction is its long-term target. The short-term goal is to celebrate a beautiful life lost to this disease.

Initial event funds will build the base for long-term efforts to serve the community on a perpetual basis. Subsequent golf tournaments and various other events will further support the mission.
