In letter to FBI, Homeland Security & Department of Justice, congressman supports call for action

Congressman Brian Higgins joined over 150 Members of Congress in a letter calling on federal law enforcement and justice agencies to swiftly address the circumstances leading to multiple bomb threats to Jewish community centers nationwide.

This comes after a bomb threat forced the evacuation of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Buffalo's two Western New York locations earlier this week, with similar threats to JCCs in cities across the country. In the letter, the members point out: "In the first two months of 2017 alone, there have been 68 incidents targeting 53 JCCs in 26 states according to JCC Association of America."

The letter calls on the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Department of Justice to handle this issue with a sense of urgency, stating, "This is a national problem and, as such, it requires a national solution."

Higgins previously served as ranking member of the House of Representatives Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, tasked with the coordination of federal agency efforts to prevent and respond to threats to the homeland in coordination with federal, state and local law enforcement.
