Students from The Lewiston Dance Center and the Grand Island Dance Center recently had a workshop with Christine Cali. She is the artistic director of the dance company CALI & CO in San Francisco, and also a dance professor at Sonoma State University in California.

"We are so lucky to get Miss Christine to come in and share her passion for dance with our students at Lewiston Dance Center. Christine and I grew up together, so I have an in!" said Rachel Novelli, owner operator of the Lewiston and Grand Island Dance Centers. "Christine has travelled all over the world, teaching colleges, universities and dance schools, from Florida to North Korea."

The students gathered for a three-hour workshop in modern dance. They worked on partnering and improv, both important parts of growing as a dancer. The students worked with one another to come up with a piece of choreography without talking.

Cali encouraged them to really "look at one another; really see each other." The students then used the duets to form a larger number.

"Miss 'Tine's enthusiasm for dance and movement and the way she reaches out to her students is inspiring to see and be a part of," Novelli said. "With competitions on the horizon, having a workshop like this gives us all a new attitude and a renewed sense of why we love dance so much."
