The Niagara County Genealogical Society will hold a "Beginning Genealogy" workshop at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, in the community room of the Lockport Public Library, 23 East Ave.

Not sure how to get started tracing your family tree? Maybe you're a seasoned genealogist looking to shake up the nuts in your tree? Attend this session to learn more.

Shelley Richards, Niagara County Genealogical Society board chairman and author of a recently published book on St. Patrick's Cemetery in Lockport, will share her trials and tribulations, as well as the basics of researching her own family during this 90-minute workshop.

Richards has been tracing her own family for 18 years and will share key organizational strategies, documentation best practices, as well as online and in-person resources for chronicling your own family history.

The event is open to the public.
