Tour of Homes: Barton Mansion wins 'Best in Show'

The 12th annual Tour of Homes was declared a success with more than 1,000 attending the event, which was held Lewiston Christmas Walk weekend. The event is a major fundraiser for the Historical Association of Lewiston.

Five homes were featured on the tour, showcasing the work of 14 decorators and tablescape artists.

Each ticketholder was invited to vote for favorite décor and holiday theme.

Event coordinator Melissa Morinello said the famous "Barton Mansion" on Center Street was deemed the perfect pallet for friends and new business partners Rebecca Acker and Laura Finkbeiner to showcase their creative talents and out-of-the-box décor designs. Their presentation was declared the 2016 People's Choice winner - "Best in Show."

"Laura and Rebecca of Décor by Labeck, created a well-thought-out and detailed decorating scheme for the home that fit its historic significance with a modern twist," Morinello said. "Instead of going with a typical Victorian theme one would expect to see in a home of this stature, they utilized many natural elements from the outdoors to showcase 'Christmas in a Forest.' Each room featured a different style, with many DIY (do-it-yourself) handmade decorations along with floral components throughout the home that were created by Rebecca."

While all designers received rave reviews, the design and holiday décor at the "House of Barton" took the top prize.
