Evelyn Perkins recently celebrated her 100th birthday, with over 50 family members and friends, at Canterbury Gardens.

Perkins, born Dec. 5, 1916, was presented a proclamation by Town of Wheatfield Supervisor Robert B. Cliffe, which recognized her many accomplishments, including going parasailing at Cabbo at the age of 91, soaking her feet in the fountains at the Louvre in Paris and walking the Great Wall of China.

The knowledge she gathered in her world travels helped her to teach understanding and acceptance to all who had contact with her. She was a leader at First Congregational United Church of Christ. As a member of the church's council, she helped guide the church to become an open and affirming congregation. Her life has been devoted to family friends and members of her community, who had the opportunity to thank her for her devotion as she celebrated her centennial birthday.
