William L. Ross received the New York Community College Trustees Marvin A. Rapp Award for distinguished trustee service last week in Cooperstown. The honor was given based on dedicated and outstanding service to Niagara County Community College.

Ross retired from the Niagara-Wheatfield School District after a 47-year-career as a teacher, coach and administrator. He recently completed 30 years as an elected official. He served as chairman of the Niagara County Legislature for 14 years.

Ross has served on the board at Niagara County Community College as a college trustee since 2005 and is currently the vice chairperson of the board. He serves as a member of the College Association of NCCC board of directors and has been a board member on the NCCC Foundation Board, which raises funds for NCCC student scholarships, since 1999.

Ross was a leading trustee in NCCC college expansion programs, working for college dormitory housing (2008) and the development of the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute in 2012.

Ross, in his role of Chairman of the Niagara County Legislature and NCCC board trustee, was the lead negotiator for a $10 million contribution by the legislature toward the new NCCC Learning Commons.

"Mr. Ross has demonstrated at all times extraordinary commitment to professional development with his attendance and participation at varied programs to improve the programs and operations of Niagara County Community College," said NCCC President Dr. James P. Klyczek.
