Record number of roads paved in NT this summer

City of North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas recently acknowledged the efforts of NT's Department of Public Works members for a record-breaking summer of road repairs in the city.

In total, more than 12 miles of roads were paved at a cost of approximately $1 million. Funding came from the City of North Tonawanda and state sources earmarked for the project.

"I certainly acknowledge the problem with the roads here in North Tonawanda - they badly need to be done. Well, our DPW sure did do something with a record number of miles paved," Pappas said. "I want to let the workers know, they did a great job with the resources available, but, there is much more to do. It will take time, but with the continued efforts of our DPW, we will eventually get there."

Brad Rowles, superintendent, Department of Public Works, said, "The 2016 paving season was a record setting year for the Department of Public Works."

He added, "Low fuel and asphalt prices, combined with perfect paving weather, enabled us to repave much more than we typically can in a season. Hopefully we get similar weather next year to build off this successful one."
