Elderwood at Wheatfield welcomes new executive director

Shannon Cayea has been named executive director of Elderwood at Wheatfield. The senior living campus consists of a nursing and assisted living community at 2600 Niagara Falls Blvd., and an independent living apartment and patio home community at 100 Crestwood Court.

Cayea has more than a dozen years of experience in health care administration, coming most recently from facilities in Central New York. She began her health care career in 1987 as a certified nursing assistant and worked as a social worker and director of admissions before obtaining her New York state nursing home administrator license.

Cayea received her Bachelor of Science degree in geriatric psychology from SUNY-Brockport and holds a Master of Science degree in public health administration from the New School University in Manhattan.

She was appointed by the governor to the board of nursing home examiners in 2014 and currently serves as vice president of the New York State Health Facilities Association board of directors.

Cayea resides in Amherst.
