Buffalo Psychiatric Center sponsors holiday gift drive

Annual gift drive helps spread holiday cheer to patients

The New York State Office of Mental Health's Buffalo Psychiatric Center is holding its annual holiday gift drive to benefit individuals receiving inpatient services at the facility - a tradition for over 35 years. Gifts will be accepted through Dec. 21, at the front desk of the facility's Strozzi Building on the main campus, located at 400 Forest Ave., Buffalo.

The following items are especially appreciated: Hats, scarves, gloves, slippers, robes, pajamas, sweatshirts, coats, shirts, socks, watches, costume jewelry, battery-operated small radios/cassette players/clock radios, head phones, DVDs of movie and television shows, art supplies (activity books, drawing paper, etc.) puzzles/board games/travel-size games, playing cards, hand cream (plastic bottles), hair accessories, candy (dietetic and sugared), purses, paperback books, stationery, comic books, aftershave/cologne (plastic bottles) and microwave popcorn.

The Buffalo Psychiatric Center is celebrating its 136th anniversary of providing mental health services to the Greater Buffalo area. The Buffalo Psychiatric Center serves more than 2,000 individuals each year in Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua counties with inpatient, outpatient, residential, wellness and self-help mental health services. The center offers outpatient clinic services at eight community locations, and operates five supervised outpatient residential programs in addition to a peer-run center for self-discovery, a wellness center, a goals center on the city campus of Erie Community College, and a mobile integration team.
