Hardwick announces ag district hearing

Fri, Nov 4th 2016 12:05 pm

The Erie County Legislature will hold a public hearing to gather public input on proposed inclusions of land into existing agricultural districts.

The agricultural district program provides economic and regulatory incentives that encourage farmers to continue farming, including protection of sound agricultural practices against private nuisance complaints and restrictive local laws, as well as specific public actions notice requirements.

"Anyone interested in speaking for or against one of the requested applications is welcome to speak at the upcoming public hearing on Grand Island," said Hardwick, who requested the hearing be held on Grand Island to accommodate the vast majority of applicants. Hardwick represents Grand Island in the Erie County Legislature.

The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Grand Island Memorial Library, 1715 Bedell Road. The public hearing will consider 115 parcels that were applied during the 2016 open enrollment period. The parcels are located as follows: 105 parcels in Grand Island, one parcel in Alden, two parcels in Amherst, one parcel in Collins, two parcels in North Collins, one parcel in Concord, one parcel in the Village of Springville and two parcels in the City of
Buffalo.
