Two Niagara University social work majors have been selected for the 2016 Safe at Home Conference Award by the Zonta Club of Niagara Falls.

Thanks to the award, Tanya Lefabvre, of Welland, Ontario, and Karissa Briggs, a native of Niagara Falls, will attend the Niagara County Family Violence Intervention Project's annual Safe at Home Conference free of charge.

The event is scheduled for Nov. 3 at The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls. This year's conference topic is "Seeking Solutions for Adult and Child Victims of Family Violence," which supports Zonta International's mission.

The Safe at Home Conference Award was developed by the education and awards committee of the Zonta Club of Niagara Falls in an effort to encourage and mentor emerging professional women to pursue careers in society that will make a difference in the lives of women in their respective communities and throughout the world.

"Our aim is to help students reach their academic and professional goals by supporting their learning experience with real-life opportunities," said Bonnie Crogan-Mazur on behalf of the education and awards committee. "It is our hope that this opportunity will not only provide these students with a career learning environment, but that it will ultimately enhance the award recipient's college experience."

Zonta International, with world headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois, is a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy.

Earlier this month, Niagara University's College of Education presented its U.S. Community Leadership Award to the Zonta Club of Niagara Falls.
