Volunteers needed to help put on the annual tradition

Festive hayrides, crafts and games will be offered at this year's Town of Wheatfield Youth Halloween Party.

The family-friendly event is set to take place from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Wheatfield Youth Center, 2790 Church Road.

"This is one of our biggest events of the year," Town of Wheatfield Recreation Director Mike Ranalli said. "Planning for this event begins right after our summer camp ends in August and will go right up until the night before."

Costume prizes will be awarded at 7 p.m. for children ages 4 years and younger, 5 to 8 and 13 to 16. Snacks and refreshments will also be available.

The party has grown over the years, likely because "it's a safe place for families to bring their kids and enjoy a fun night with the rest of the community," Ranalli said. "Halloween night usually consists of parents racing home from work to get their kids on the road going house to house. This event allows the parents to relax and enjoy a coffee or water, while their kids can hang out with their friends, family and classmates."

Ranalli said he enjoys seeing staff members, friends and family collaborate to put on event.

"The preparation for this event creates a family-like atmosphere that carries over into the party," he said.

Volunteers are still needed to help with the event.
