The City of North Tonawanda has found a new way to pay tribute to its police officers.
Last week, a blue line was painted between the two solid yellow no passing lines on Payne Avenue in front of the city's police station.
In a Facebook post, the North Tonawanda Police Department wrote, "Traditionally, the blue line represents the role law enforcement serves, standing between law-abiding citizens and the criminal element. ... The North Tonawanda Police Department wants to thank Mayor Arthur Pappas and his staff for recognizing the good work the North Tonawanda Police Department does for the citizens in our community."
North Tonawanda Police Chief William R. Hall said he was all for the idea when the mayor's office called to see what he thought of adding the blue line.
"I think it was nice of them to do that, to recognize the guy's services to the community and the citizens of North Tonawanda," he said.
