The Erie County Department of Senior Services' Retired & Senior Volunteer Program ("RSVP") has announced the fall 2016 "University Express" lifelong learning program is now accepting registrations from seniors interested in taking one or more of the classes offered.

The "University Express" program is a collaboration of the Erie County Department of Senior Services, Wegmans, Excelsior Orthopaedics, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York, and program host sites around the community. It offers free, one-hour classes on over 60 different topics, including current events, history, humanities, science and medicine, and personal enrichment.

Classes are specially designed for older adult learners. They are held from early October through early December at sites including the Amherst Senior Center, Baptist Manor, Canterbury Woods, Cheektowaga Senior Center, Clarence Senior Center, Grand Island Golden Age Center, Hamburg Senior Community Center, Ken-Ton Presbyterian Village, Orchard Park Senior Center, the Springville-Concord Elder Network (Concord Town Hall), Town of Aurora Senior Center and Wegmans' Sheridan Drive location.

Among the roster of instructors for fall classes are veteran local newscasters Rich Kellman and Rich Newberg; distinguished service professor in political science, Claude Welch; WNY Land Conservancy Board President Larry Brooks; President of the Buffalo Colored Musicians Club George Scott; Fulbright Scholar Eileen Angelini, Ph.D.; paranormal author Mason Winfield; and surgeons from Excelsior Orthopaedics. Healthy cooking classes will be held at the Wegmans Sheridan Drive location.

Classes are free, but pre-registration is recommended by calling the site where the class will be held. The "University Express" course catalog can be viewed at the "Senior Services" website. Call the RSVP office for a paper copy of the schedule at 716-858-7548. The schedule also is available at "University Express" sites and Buffalo and Erie County Public Library branches.
