The Lewiston Community Lions Club kicked off its new membership season with guest speakers from the Tuscarora School.

Principal Elizabeth Corieri spoke passionately about her 28 years at the learning center. She said she believes one of her proudest accomplishments is that students can earn Regents and college credits for learning the Tuscarora language.

The Tuscarora School now has educational partnerships with Niagara County Community College and Niagara University. In addition to a morning news program and weekly yoga class, the school has recently hired three new teachers. Attendance stands at 110, ranging from pre-K to sixth grade.

Two Tuscarora sixth-grade students, Katrina Green and Eliza Spina, who spoke with confidence and poise as they shared their experience attending Tuscarora School, accompanied Corieri. The students also discussed some of their favorite things (language, history, and culture) and their aspirations for the future. Katrina plans to attend Niagara University to study criminal justice while Eliza plans to become a veterinarian.

The Lewiston Lions Club was able to donate backpacks filled with school supplies for students, as well as supplies for teacher Edward Schiffert.
