You know his son: Nicholas F. Minicucci Sr. passes

Nicholas F. Minicucci Sr., 90, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully at his home with his devoted wife at his side on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Eugene and Julia (Floramo) Minicucci. 

Minicucci was raised and educated in Niagara Falls, and moved to the Lewiston area in the late 1950s. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a member of the 263rd Infantry Regiment, 66th Panther Division, from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946.

He was involved in the campaigns of Northern France, and awarded the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Minicucci began his working career in Niagara Falls with National Graphite, during which time he also owned and operated Nick's Liquor Store along with his father. He went on to work for James Maroon, Vaughn Doors and, alongside his son, Nicholas, with Medical Biotics, and son, Robert, with Health System Services.

Minicucci was a longtime parishioner of St. Peter's R.C. Church in Lewiston and former president of its Holy Name Society. He was also a board member of the Niagara Falls YMCA, 4th degree member of the Knight Of Columbus Council 247, a member of Our Lady of Angels Association, Niagara Falls Builders Association, Niagara Travel Club and Nick's Como Gourmet Club.

He was also an avid golfer and member of the Niagara Fall Country Club. Minicucci was especially proud of being the oldest member to win the Governors Cup and also serve as Porter Cup marshal. In his younger years, Minicucci coached soccer for the Niagara Pioneer Soccer League.

Nick was predeceased by his first wife, Rosa Louise (Chiocchio) Minicucci, in 1985. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemarie (Romero) Mezhir Minicucci; his sons, Nicholas (Susan) Minicucci Jr. of Allendale, New Jersey, Robert (Kristy) Minicucci of Youngstown, Lt. Col. Stephen (Patricia) Mezhir (Ret. USAF) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Paul (Larry Brohman) Mezhir of Niagara Falls; his grandchildren, Molly (John) Phillips, Nicholas (Jennifer) Minicucci III, Michael (Amanda) Minicucci, Matthew (Cassandra) Minicucci, Robert Minicucci Jr., Richard Minicucci, the late Thomas Minicucci, Katie Minicucci, Charles Mezhir, Nicholas Mezhir and Shane Mezhir; 12 great-grandchildren: Susan, Cassandra, Jack, Shae, Nicholas IV, Madison, Grayson, Cole, Amelia, Sadie, Reese and Luke; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren. He was also predeceased by his brother, Anthony (Mae), of Niagara Falls), his brother-in-law, Robert (Barbara of Danbury, Connecticut) Chiocchio; and he was the lifelong friend and brother of Albert (Patricia) Chille and late Ralph (Ezita) Chille.

Nick's family would like to extend a special "Thank you" to his caregivers, Martha and Frudy, for their compassionate care.

Visitation will be held tonight until 8 p.m. at the M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at St. Peter's R.C. Church, 620 Center St., Lewiston. Please assemble at the church. Entombment with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Niagara Falls.

The Knights of Columbus Council 247 will conduct a prayer service at 5:30 p.m.
