Grand Island Town Board: CROP Walk proclamation issued

Sat, Sep 24th 2016 07:00 am

The Grand Island Town Board at its regular meeting Monday issued a proclamation encouraging Island residents to support the annual CROP Walk, which will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, in Beaver Island State Park.

The walk funds food and poverty needs in the U.S. and around the world, with a quarter of money raised at the Grand Island walk returned to the Western New York community.

In making the proclamation, the board noted 2016 is the 70th anniversary of Church World Service, which began CROP as Christian Rural Overseas Program in 1947, and then changed to Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.
