145th Assembly District candidate Angelo Morinello released the following press release Tuesday:

On the heels of his pledge last week to reject any legislative pay raise and donate the proposed $36,000 salary increase to local charities, Angelo Morinello today is challenging incumbent John Ceretto to join him in pledging to donate any pay raise for legislators to local charities.

It was reported last week that a legislative pay commission packed with allies of Assembly leaders and Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing a 47 percent pay increase for all state legislators.

"New York is the highest taxed and most corrupt state in the nation. Only in Albany when in the same year that two former legislative leaders were convicted and sentenced on federal corruption charges for stealing from taxpayers would the politicians accept a 47 percent pay raise. Albany politicians are deaf to the fact that trust is broken, but I'm running for state Assembly to help earn it back," said Morinello.

"I'm asking my opponent to join me in an effort to earn that trust back and pledge to donate any pay increase to charities in our community.

"I've made this same commitment to show how serious I am about public service over a fat paycheck. It's my sincere hope that my opponent will stand with our community and not with the Albany insiders who think it's OK to be rewarded for bad behavior. Let's see where my opponent's loyalty truly lies.

"And to my friends in journalism and the media - do not accept an answer from my opponent that he is simply against a $36,000 pay raise. Or that he'll reject it, because legally elected officials must take it. Will he join me in doing the right thing and donate a pay increase to charity or fall in line with the New York City politicians who want a fat raise?"
