Paul Jackson, president of the Niagara River Anglers Association, visited the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce office to accept a check donation presented on behalf of the chamber's board of directors. Proceeds came from this year's Lewiston Smelt Festival.

DiMino's Lewiston Tops, the Village of Lewiston and Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours sponsored the annual event, which was held on the Lewiston waterfront. It is a fundraiser for the NRAA.

Donations were received from DiMino's Lewiston Tops to assist with the purchase of the smelt and additional aspects of the festival. Additional support came from CWM, Lower Niagara Moose Lodge No. 584, attendees of the festival (who donated money for a smelt sample), and the chamber staff and board members.

The Lewiston Smelt Festival is held on the first Friday of May and marks the start of the festival season in the village.

The NRAA seeks to educate the public, both youths and adults, on a variety of issues related to resource conservation and enhancement, along with the preservation of fish and wildlife.
