'Still at it': The Art and Schematics of Rich deCorse at Castellani Art Museum

Fri, Jul 8th 2016 03:30 pm

A new folk arts exhibition at the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University explores the diverse works of Rich deCorse, a Lewiston-based artist who draws on his experience as a retired design engineer and his artistic background to devise and create each piece.

"Still at it": The Art and Schematics of Rich deCorse opens with a reception featuring light refreshments at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17. The exhibit explores the intersection of work and art: how the knowledge, skills, and techniques deCorse gained as a design engineer at Bell Aerospace influence, shape and relate to his artistic endeavors. From drafting proposal sketches to building three-dimensional counterparts, through designing assembly patterns to problem-solving technical schema, the echoes of an engineering paradigm reverberate throughout.

Woodcarvings and paintings of community life round out the assembled works, including those that reference the vibrancy and members of the jazz community in Niagara Falls and Lewiston.

"Still at it": The Art and Schematics of Rich deCorse is on display from July 17 through Dec. 18. For more information, contact Edward Millar, curator of folk arts, at 716-286-8290.
