Food Bank of WNY board of directors elects new executive committee

Michael J. Prendergast, vice president and senior relationship manager in the commercial banking division of M&T Bank, was elected chair of the Food Bank of Western New York's board of directors during its annual meeting.

In his leadership role at M&T Bank, Prendergast manages banking relationships of commercial customers in WNY and addresses needs for financing, investments, treasury management, investment banking, 401K/benefits and leasing. Prendergast has served on the Food Bank's board of directors since 2010, and has held the offices of treasurer and vice chair.

The board of directors also elected John F. Dunbar Jr., University at Buffalo School of Management; and Michael J. Mann, P.E.; McMahon & Mann Consulting Engineers P.C., as chair emeriti.

Dunbar was re-elected to the position after having just completed a one-year term as chair emeritus. Actively involved with the Food Bank since 2002, his previously held offices include vice chair, chair, and past chair of the board of directors. He has also been a member of the Food Bank's community advisory council.

Mann steps into the role of chair emeritus after most recently serving on the community advisory council. He became a member of the Food Bank's board of directors in 2007, and went on to hold the offices of treasurer, vice chair, chair and past chair of the board.

Also elected to the Food Bank's 2016-17 executive committee were: Past Chair Tom Berical, CPA, Freed Maxick CPAs P.C.; Vice Chair Jerry Sheldon, Habitat for Humanity - Buffalo; Treasurer Kevin Darrington, Tops Markets LLC; and Secretary Tim Wangler, Wegmans Food Markets Inc.

The Food Bank of WNY is the primary hunger-relief organization in Western New York, obtaining and distributing food to 329 member agencies, including food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, youth programs and senior centers in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties. Through these agencies, the Food Bank of WNY serves as many as 129,322 individuals in any given month, including more than 44,000 families, 45,000 children, and nearly 17,000 seniors.
