Dazzling fireworks display will be provided by Russell Salvatore

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. today announced its schedule for the Fourth of July, featuring a wide variety of activities at Canalside and the Outer Harbor. The free Independence Day events will culminate with Canalside's official City of Buffalo fireworks display, presented for the third year by Russell J. Salvatore. The event is also supported by Canalside's premiere partner, KeyBank.

The fireworks, by Skylighter Fireworks, can be viewed at Canalside or the Outer Harbor and will be synced to music provided by Mix 96 FM. Whether one celebrates at the Outer Harbor or comes to Canalside, expect to see the sky explode in color with one of the biggest fireworks displays Western New York has ever seen.

The event's rain date is Tuesday, July 5.

"Just when you thought Buffalo's Official July 4th celebration couldn't get any better, the Outer Harbor and Canalside join forces to take the fun and festivities to a whole new level," ECHDC Chairman Robert Gioia said. "We thank Russell Salvatore for his generous donation of fireworks, and look forward to enjoying the additional activities planned for the Outer Harbor."

"I am so proud to once again be involved with Buffalo's official July 4th celebration," Salvatore said. "When the fireworks fill the sky, make sure you are tuned to Mix 96 FM to get the full feeling of patriotic pride. And to ensure it also looks colorful on the ground, everyone should dress from head to toe in red, white and blue."

There will be children's activities from noon to 6 p.m. at Canalside with plenty of food trucks on site. No outside food, beverage or pets will be allowed. Folding chairs and blankets are welcome.

Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of live music on the main stage at Canalside starting at noon, and at Wilkeson Pointe starting at 4 p.m. There will also be a beer garden and plenty of food and patriotic souvenir vendors on the Outer Harbor.

"The Outer Harbor Management Group is proud to be part of the City of Buffalo's 4th of July celebrations," said Jonathan Dandes of Outer Harbor Management Group, president of Rich Baseball Operations. "The Outer Harbor offers the residents of Western New York another venue to celebrate Independence Day with prime viewing areas for fireworks, and opportunities during both the day and night to enjoy the waterfront with live music and food and beverage at Wilkeson Pointe."

For anyone planning to use the Queen City Bike Ferry to get back and forth between the Outer Harbor and Canalside, be aware it only runs until 8 p.m. on the Fourth of July. Bicyclists will need to utilize Ohio Street after that.
