This statement from the Department of Public Service and the Department of Environmental Conservation regarding the FitzPatrick plant shut down was sent late Monday night:
"At the direction of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, the New York State Department of Public Service and the Department of Environmental Conservation are continuing to investigate the unexpected shutdown of the FitzPatrick Nuclear Reactor. As a result of the shutdown, a stuck valve caused the plant to leak non-radiological oil into Lake Ontario. The two agencies are conducting this joint investigation to understand the precautionary measures the plant operator took and what impact the leak had on water quality. The source of the leak has been stopped and there has been no release of radioactivity into the environment. Entergy is currently remediating the spill with oversight by DEC and the U.S. Coast Guard. New York state personnel will continue to investigate this incident thoroughly."
