Niagara Hospice will hold its 13th annual Memorial Butterfly Release from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 16, in the Memorial Gardens located at 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport.

In many cultures, butterflies are recognized as a universal symbol of hope, making them the perfect way to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones.

This event is open to the community, and organizers invite families and individuals to release butterflies in memory or in honor of someone special to them. In addition to the release, activities for the family will be available, including a bounce house and games. Refreshments will be served, and live music will be played.

Special Events Coordinator Mandy Raff said more than 400 butterflies are released into the gardens each year.

"The butterfly release is a wonderful event," she said. "It provides an opportunity for families and individuals to celebrate the people closest to them, and it brings the community together in a very special way."

To purchase live butterflies, sun catchers and butterfly plants, call the Niagara Hospice events department at 716-280-0766 or visit www.NiagaraHospice.org to order online. All proceeds benefit patients and families served by Niagara Hospice.

Please note live butterflies are pre-sale only and must be ordered by July 11.

Since 1988, Niagara Hospice has provided comfort, care and support to over 25,000 Niagara County individuals and families faced with terminal illness. For more information, visit www.NiagaraHospice.org or call 716-HOSPICE.
