Artpark & Company officially opened its percussion garden Sunday with a ceremony and live performances at the Emerald Grove area.

The percussion garden is a collection of interactive installations and music instruments, including:

  • "Scorpiotron" by David Hind
  • "Swing Set" by David Cossin
  • "Chime Tree" by Cossin, with "Lawn Chair" by Tanis Winslow, Stephanie Kowalski, Jasper Reese and "The Adventure Department"
  • "Earth Drums" by Glenn Kotche
  • "TeeterTotter" and #Make It Rain by Julian Majewski

These interactive items are spread across the state park's grassy areas, next to the South Fourth Street parking lot and box office.

On Sunday, both children and adults tapped, banged, boinged and flipped an assortment of made instruments.

The percussion garden is free and open to the public from dawn until dusk seven days a week, with the exception of "Scorpiotron," which will only be available to play from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays through Aug. 28.

The percussion garden has been made possible by a gift from the Charles and Mary Bauer Foundation.

In conjunction with the garden, a series of music concerts will be staged throughout the summer, curated by Cossin and Tom Kolor (University at Buffalo percussion ensemble). For more information, visit www.artpark.net.
