Assemblyman John D. Ceretto announced the Lewiston Pubic Library has been awarded a $120,000 construction grant, which he helped secure in last year's state budget. The funding will be used to upgrade the library roof.

"Public libraries are an important part of our communities," Ceretto said. "They offer essential resources and give many a place to learn. This funding ensures that our library will continue to be a safe environment for all."

The New York State Library has awarded 173 grants to public libraries and public library systems throughout New York. These grants are supported by a $14 million capital fund appropriation in the 2015-16 state budget for construction and renovation of public libraries.

In an effort to counteract the "summer slide," a decrease in learning that occurs when children are not in school during the summer months, Ceretto is encouraging students to visit their local library and take part in this year's "On your mark, get set...READ!" summer reading challenge.
