A unique event is taking place Saturday at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park.
With Flag Day Tuesday, June 14, the Naval Park, in conjunction with its sponsors, Perry's Ice Cream and Ace Flag Co., is hosting an "I Pledge Allegiance Challenge" for any child 12 years old or younger. From noon until 4 p.m. under a tent between the two buildings, any child who can recite from memory the Pledge of Allegiance will win a free Perry's Ice Cream treat, a free American flag from Ace Flag Co., and free admission to the Naval Park.
Children must be accompanied by an adult or guardian. One set of prizes will be awarded per child.
In addition, inside the Hall of Honor building, Ace Flag will have an elaborate flag display and representatives will be there to answer questions about flags.
