The Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park's annual Memorial Day observance, honoring the men and women who gave their lives in service protecting this nation's freedom, will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Veterans' Hall of Honor Building, One Naval Park Cove at Canalside, Buffalo.

In addition, there will be a Wall of Honor ceremony recognizing five local veterans, a wreath-laying ceremony and a geranium sale.

The solemn, 45-minute ceremony will include the call for the colors by the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corp. and the U.S. Navy color guard. The Buffalo Dolls will perform the National Anthem, and five local veterans will be inducted onto the Wall of Honor.

Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs will be the keynote speaker before the wreath-laying ceremony. Taps will be performed to conclude the ceremony.

The annual geranium sale is open to the public from 10 a.m. until sold out. Geraniums will be sold for $5 each, or five for $20. All proceeds will benefit the park's volunteer landscape project.
