Robert E. Lee Sr. passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on April 14, 2016.

The son of Wilbur and Florence Lee, as well as Ruthe Lee, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Judith; sons Robert, John (James Byers) and Steven; grandchildren Matthew, Nathan, Megan and Kathryn; two brothers, Burdette and Thomas; and his dog, Miss Molly Lee.

He joined the Navy at the age of 17. Upon returning at the close of World War II, Lee graduated from SUNY Cortland and Niagara University and went on to own and operate the Robert E. Lee Insuring Agency for more than 50 years.

A longtime resident of Lewiston, Lee was a member, elder and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church; a town councilman; a charter member of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club; and participated in boards including the Lewiston Free Library and the SPCA.

Many will remember Lee for his love of sports, including racquetball, tennis, golf and skiing, and for smoking cigars. He was also known for his carpentry skills.

Family and friends will not soon forget the warm and welcoming smile Lee shared whenever he met others.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga St.

A service to celebrate Lee's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, in the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hardison Funeral Home, North Fourth and Ridge streets, Lewiston.
