Sat, Apr 23rd 2016 07:00 am

The Friends of the Youngstown Free Library will host a spring book sale from Thursday evening through Saturday afternoon, April 28-30, at the Red Brick School Village Center gym, 240 Lockport St.

Current members or those wishing to join the Friends organization are invited to a "Members' Night" from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 28. Members who have joined in 2016 and individuals who join the Friends on or before then will be entered into a drawing to win one of 10 $20 gift certificates, good for various Youngstown businesses. The drawing will take place on "Members' Night."

The book sale is open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, April 29, and from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30. At 1 p.m. Saturday, the "bag sale" gets underway, where visitors can fill a shopping bag provided by library staff for $3.

The book sale is organized by Friends' directors Faith Koch and Philip Miller. The event involves the support of dozens of volunteers who unpack, sort and organize materials for sale.

As in the past, available items will include fiction, nonfiction, children's and adolescent titles, travel, cooking, gardening, self-help, spiritual, literature and New York Times best-selling books. DVDs and CDs will also be for sale. Items range in cost from 25 cents to $3. All proceeds benefit the Youngstown Free Library.

Donations of used books or materials are welcome and can be dropped off at the Youngstown Village Center gym on Wednesday or Thursday the week of the sale.
