Congressman Chris Collins is recognizing U.S. Navy veteran Ernie Reitzel as New York 27th Congressional District's first Veteran of the Month. This new program was established by Collins' office to recognize the dedication and service of NY-27's veterans.

"I was honored to have the opportunity to meet with Ernie and recognize his service," Collins said. "Ernie is a man who exemplified the greatest qualities of leadership and bravery during his service in the U.S. Navy. My office will continue to recognize a local Veteran of the Month as a small thank you to the thousands of Western New York veterans who have selflessly served our country."

Reitzel served in the United States Navy from 1943-46. During his three years of service, HE served aboard the U.S.S. Hambleton, which was chartered to assist military campaigns throughout Asia, the Mediterranean and Europe.

Collins recently met with Ernie and his wife, Susan, and presented him with a congressional certificate of commendation and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol Building. Collins will recognize a local Veteran of the Month with such an American Flag and certificate.

To nominate a NY-27 Veteran of the Month, submit an inquiry to [email protected], or call Collins' district office at 716-634-2324.
