Dr. Bala Thatigotla to lead division of minimally invasive surgery at Memorial

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has appointed Bala Thatigotla, M.D., M.R.C.S., F.A.C.S., head of its division of minimally invasive surgery.

Since joining Memorial's medical staff in 2011, Bala has distinguished himself in the areas of minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery, including complex surgeries. He played key roles in the establishment of the hospital's growing bariatric surgery program and its recent introduction of specialized gastrointestinal surgical procedures, including gastric neurostimulator implantation for patients suffering from gastroparesis and use of the LINX Reflux Management System for those with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

A graduate of Sri Venkateswara Medical College in Tirupati, India, Bala completed post-graduate training in general surgery at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Following his residency in general surgery at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center/Albert Einstein School of Medicine, New York, he served a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery/bariatric surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville.

Bala is board-certified in general surgery by both the American Board of Surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a fellow of The American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
