Obit: Diana 'Bunty' Decker

Diana "Bunty" Decker, age 90 of Lewiston, passed away after a brief illness Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston.

Bunty was born in Niagara Falls on April 8, 1925, the daughter of Edward and Diana (Brown) Fitzpatrick, originally of Glasgow, Scotland. Bunty attended local schools and some elementary years in Scotland.

She loved Gaskill and graduated from Niagara Falls High School with the Class of 1943. During high school, she worked at Nugent's Nat'l. Stores, Niagara Avenue and Main Street, Niagara Falls. After graduation, Bunty worked in the payroll department of the Carborundum Company through the end of World War II.

Bunty married Jim Decker, a World War II veteran, when he returned from the war. They were married in Trinity Lutheran Church of Niagara Falls on Dec. 1, 1945.

The couple shared 60 of the most wonderful years together, from Niagara Falls to Southern California. They spent 44 of those years in Long Beach and Rancho Mirage, California, and the last 18 years in Lewiston. She was a devoted wife, a dedicated mother and the most loyal friend in the world. While living in Long Beach, she worked in the printing industry and spent many happy years at Seaside Printing Company.

Bunty was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in April 2006; son, James E. Decker, a Long Beach firefighter, in 1993; her sister, Anne Coty-Buzanowski of Lewiston, in 2005; and her brother, Edward Fitzpatrick of Lewiston, in July 2012. She is survived by one son, David Decker, and his wife, Isabel of Lewiston. Bunty is also survived by many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and myriad most wonderful friends in the world from New York to California.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, in the Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Military Road, Lewiston. There will be no visitation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hardison Funeral Home, North Fourth and Ridge streets, Lewiston. Memorials may be sent to Bunty's son, David Decker, 698 Northridge Drive, No. 113, Lewiston, NY 14092.
