Scout Sunday celebrated

Sat, Feb 13th 2016 07:00 am

Scout Sunday (for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts) was celebrated at the 9 a.m. Mass, Feb. 7, at St. Stephen R.C. Church on Grand Island.

The Boy Scouts of America designate the Sunday preceding Feb. 8, or Feb. 8 if it is a Sunday, as Scout Sunday, a day to mark the founding of the Scouts in the United States. Scouts go to their places of worship in uniform and assist with the service.

The St. Stephen church bulletin said the event at the Baseline Road church both celebrated Scouting and honored Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts who have earned religious awards, including:

•From Cub Scout Pack 630, earning the Light of Christ medal: John Stancliff.

•From Cub Scout Pack 630, earning the Parvuli Dei medal: James Moorhouse.

•From Boy Scout Troop 630, working towards the Pope Pius XII Award: Cade Mongielo, Joseph Peters, and Patrick Stouter.

Also, Brian Wynne received his Eagle Scout award at Mass, which was followed by a reception.

The religious emblem programs help these young men explore a wide range of activities and discover the presence of God in their daily lives.

Members of Cub Scout Pack 630 and Boy Scout Troop 630 were honored at St. Stephen R.C. Church on Scout Sunday, Feb. 7.
