The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship program to support Western New York-area high school seniors in pursuit of higher education in the foodservice and hospitality industries. The program awards up to five scholarship winners with $1,000 each to be applied toward college education.

To be eligible for a scholarship, students must be residents of Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Wyoming, Genesee, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus or Allegany counties. They must also be enrolled, or intend to enroll in a foodservice or hospitality curriculum at an accredited two- or four-year school for the fall 2016 semester. Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of academic achievement, experience, recommendations, community involvement, goal objectives and overall interest in the industry. Since the scholarship program began in 1997, more than $70,000 has been awarded.

For additional information and to download an application, visit www.tasteofbuffalo.com. The completed application, a current transcript and report card, and two letters of recommendation must be received by Friday, April 8.

The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is the nation's largest two-day food festival, attracting more than 450,000 visitors each year. The 33rd annual Taste will take place July 9-10 along Delaware Avenue and Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo. The Taste is a not-for-profit organization with more than 1,000 volunteers helping to put on the annual event.

More than $315,000 has been raised at the festival for local charities in addition to scholarships awarded annually to high school seniors pursuing a culinary or hospitality-related degree. For more information, visit tasteofbuffalo.com and check out the Taste on FacebookTwitter and Instagram.
