The Lewiston Community Lions recently welcomed newly inducted Lions Marlene Merrell and Eileen Cordani, both of the Town of Lewiston, into the world's largest service organization.

"Lion Ron Craft has done a tremendous job with finding new, enthusiastic members to help build and sustain the Lewiston Lions chapter, and I am proud of all the work we have accomplished right here in this community," said Regina Cecconi, president of the Lewiston Community Lions. She added membership has been on a steady incline and continues to grow.

Lions International currently has 46,240 clubs in 210 countries around the world, with over 1.4 million members serving.

This past holiday season, the Lewiston Lions sponsored the Thanksgiving and Christmas lunch at the Town of Lewiston Senior Center, and donated turkeys and hams to the Tuscarora food pantry. The club also participated in the Holiday Heroes Comfort Kit program through the American Red Cross, donating 20 full-sized comfort care kits for homeless veterans; and conducted eye screenings at the Tuscarora bazaar and at Sacred Heart Villa School. This is in addition to regular volunteer services, fundraising and donating to both individuals and organizations within Lewiston and the surrounding communities.

The Lewiston Lions are a sponsor of the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce's next business blender, which is set for 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Center Cut: The Village Steakhouse, 451 Center St., Lewiston. Stop in and speak with a Lion to see how you can make a difference in your community.
