Grand Island Town Board conducting advisory board interviews

Fri, Feb 5th 2016 07:45 pm

The Grand Island Town Board is happy with the turnout for candidates to help run its town government.

During Monday's Grand Island Town Board meeting, Councilwoman Bev Kinney thanked those people, some present in Town Hall courtroom, who applied and interviewed for positions on town liaison boards.

"We interviewed 19 people so far and we still have another meeting to do four interviews," she said. "It's really so wonderful to see people stepping out and wanting to participate in the community. It's a lot of time out of your everyday lives and extra time, as I know. So I really want to thank everybody for coming out and all the enthusiasm we're seeing."

Councilman Mike Madigan agreed, praising "the enthusiasm and the engagement and passion that people are showing, and the number of people, so it's really very challenging because there's a few openings and there's a lot of people that are applying."

The board will advertise for more advisory board openings, this time for prospective candidates to serve on the newly instituted Long Range Planning Committee.

Also at the meeting Monday, which was run by Deputy Supervisor Jim Sharpe because Supervisor Nathan McMurray was out of town and delayed in returning, the board set a meeting for Feb. 8 with Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament organizer Corey McGowan to discuss the tourney, which will take place June 11 and 12.
