Feb. 13 event hopes to attract new foster parents; Valentine's Day weekend signifies love, hope

The Erie County Department of Social Services has announced the second annual Foster Family Fair will be held from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, in the Science Hall Commons at Canisius College, 2001 Main St., Buffalo. Prospective foster parents and those who are interested in learning more about the process are encouraged to join current foster parents and area agencies that provide foster parent training and programming to find out if foster parenting is for them.

"There is a serious need for foster parents in Erie County, and there are many wonderful children hoping to become part of a loving home," said Commissioner of Social Services Al Dirschberger. "This event is held on Valentine's Day weekend, a time dedicated to love, so that potential foster families can open their hearts to someone who really needs them. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover more about foster programs, the joys of foster parenting, and the incredibly positive impact that foster parents can have on children's lives."

The Foster Family Fair is free and open to individuals at least 21 years old who may be single, married, divorced, widowed or living with a partner. The primary requirement is for individuals to have room in their home and in their heart to help a child (or children) on a temporary basis.

Organizers said they hope the event will attract at least 100 new foster parenting prospects. More information is available at www.FosterFair.com.
