He was born Aug. 3, 1943, in South Buffalo, the son of Julia and Francis Quinn. He graduated from Bishop Timon High School in 1961.

"Back then that was a very special assignment and those who worked there were hand-picked by the captain in charge, Capt. Anthony Burvid, He only picked the best coppers for TPU, guys who knew how to handle themselves on the street and could be trusted to get the job done no matter where or what the job was," said Kevin M. Kennedy, PBA president.

Quinn was a star pitcher on the Police Athletic League baseball team. During his career, he served as a police officer and detective in Precincts 6 and 13 (which became the D-District). He retired from the Police Department on April 7, 1997, after serving 31 years.

He worked various security jobs, including for the Seneca Gaming Authority at the Niagara Falls Casino for several years.

He was a member of the Emerald Society and the Buffalo PBA.

He was the beloved husband of Mary (née Lipiec) Quinn and the late Molly (née Shear) Quinn. He was the devoted father of Mary Pierre (Gene) Stanbro, Frank (Jolynn) Quinn, Kim (Steve) Rebmann, Faith (Mark) Lemke, Ken Quinn, Joe (Misty) Quinn, John (Lindsay) Quinn, Christian Quinn, Mary Grace (Jim) Battaglia, and Kelly (John) Arnone; cherished grandfather of 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; dear brother of Mary Ellen (Gene) Thirolf and the late William and Thomas Quinn; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will be present Friday, Jan. 15, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Tonawanda Chapel, Amigone Funeral Home Inc., 2600 Sheridan Drive (corner of Parker Boulevard). Family and friends are invited to assemble at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at St. Stephen R.C. Church, 2100 Whitehaven Road. Burial/interment in St. Stephen Cemetery will follow at 11 a.m.
