Bonavista Foods Inc.'s Ovid, New York, establishment is recalling approximately 4,338 pounds of cured pork products that were not presented at the U.S. point of entry for inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced. Without the benefit of full inspection, a possibility of adverse health consequences exists.
The cured pork back items were imported Nov. 17. The following products are subject to recall:
•Combo bin containing "GRAS DE DOS DE PORC SALE sel ajoute CURED PORK FATBACK salt added PRODUCT IF U.S.A./PRODUIT DES E.U.A." with a packaging date of Nov. 30, 2015, and package code 306.
•50-pound boxes of "CURED PORK FATBACK PRODUCT OF THE U.S.A" with a packaging date of Nov. 27, 2015.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number "Est. 17978" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to a warehouse and retail locations in Brooklyn and Canada.
The problem was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities of imported products.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a health care provider.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notifying their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain the product is no longer available to consumers.
