Long-time resident (54 years in Ferry Village), Mary "Maisie" Dommell passed away Nov. 3, 2015.
She was the wife of the late Merle Dommell, mother of Robert (Susan Breier), Gary (Marilyn), and Bill. She is survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Maisie was active with the Historical Society (past president). She was known for "Maisie's Tea" and her Scottish shortbread. She was active with the Golden Agers (past president, secretary and long-time hostess). She was active with the Women's Republican Committee (past president, vice president, treasurer), and also with the Ferry Village Association. She worked at the Town Hall as a court clerk and was a member of the Town and Village Court Clerks Association. She also worked at the Beaver Island Casino Restaurant for many years.
She and Merle took active roles in decorating and riding in floats for the 4th of July parades. Maisie was voted Citizen of the Year 2000 for community service to Grand Island.
A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy Church Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. Donations to Hospice Buffalo or the Alzheimer's Association appreciated.
