Sat, Nov 7th 2015 09:30 am

Veterans Day services on the Island will take place at DeGlopper Park at the intersection of Grand Island Boulevard and Baseline Road Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

The location of the service, normally held at the memorial wall in Veterans Park, will allow members of the Pfc. Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9249 and Grand Island American Legion Post No. 1346 to make a special announcement about major expansion plans for DeGlopper Park.

Members of the two posts invite veterans, family members, and friends to the service.

The DeGlopper VFW Post, 2121 Grand Island Blvd., will hold an open house Nov. 11. The post will provide lunch and dinner and offer any veteran with a Thank-A-Vet card or veteran stamped drivers license free beer and drinks. All guests that day will enjoy half-priced drinks.

At 5 p.m., the Watchfire, an American flag retirement ceremony, will take place at Martin's Fantasy Island on Grand Island Boulevard. All are invited to attend the programs.
